How often do you read or hear someone talking about antioxidants? They’re all the rage. Foods and supplements high in antioxidants are held in high esteem, and for good reason.

Antioxidants are substances that protect your cells from damage caused by unstable molecules, better known as free radicals. Free radicals are produced through the process of oxidation, which is the interaction between oxygen and other molecules. A rusty car bumper is an example of damage from oxidation.

Your body produces free radicals when your cells use oxygen, as is the case when breaking down food and exercising. Exposure to environmental toxins like smoke and radiation also produce free radicals. Free radicals are implicated in a number of diseases including cancer and heart disease.

From a nutritive standpoint, peaches are somewhat underrated. Peaches provide a high amount of potassium, a shortage of which leads to a number of health problems. In combination with banana, this smoothie recipe provides plenty of this key mineral.

Peaches are high in antioxidants and phytonutrients. They are a good source of beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A, high in vitamin C, rich in dietary fiber, and studies have even revealed them to be anti-cancerous. And best of all, peaches are delicious, at least in my opinion.

This is currently my go to smoothie recipe when I need protein that’s easy to digest and assimilate. I like to consume half before and the other half after working out. It’s also great for breakfast and provides your brain with plenty of protein to function properly throughout the day.

Not everyone has access to raw milk (cow or goat), or chooses to consume dairy, therefore almond and coconut milk can be substituted. If you have access to raw milk, but haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend you do some research and consider giving it a whirl.
