It’s time to do some light detoxing the easy way with a delicious smoothie.
Detoxing is all the rage these days. I don’t subscribe to most of the detoxification protocols out there, unless you’re in a healing crisis.
Instead, I nourish my body with healthy foods full of nutrients that “crowd out” the toxins and support the body’s natural detoxification channels. I also avoid toxins wherever I can (food, water, health & beauty products, cleaning products, etc) and employ detox habits such as skin brushing, sweating via exercise or sauna, and occasional clay consumption.
That said, how does this smoothie help you detox?
Cilantro acts like an escort ushering heavy metals like mercury from your body. Chemical compounds in cilantro bind to heavy metals, loosen them from your tissues, and usher them out of your body in the process known as chelation.
Lime juice helps to cleanse and detox your liver. Its high amount of vitamin C aids the liver in producing glutathione, The Mother of All Antioxidants. The citric acid in lime juice is also helpful in breaking down unwanted kidney stones.
Ginger is a fantastic digestive aid, proper digestion is important for elimination of toxins. It also fires up your body’s detoxification efforts and helps purge toxins.
Not only does this smoothie help you detox, it’s also loaded with nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.
If you don’t like cilantro, either omit from this recipe or choose another detox smoothie to blend up. You might have noticed that’s not spinach in the picture of my blender above. I opted to use a cup of the spicy salad mix I get from my local farm. Any green will do. Enjoy!
Cilantro Mango Lime Detox Smoothie Recipe
The Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 avocado
- 1/2 cup cilantro
- 1 cup spinach
- 1 cup fresh or frozen mango chunks
- Juice of 1 lime
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
- 1/2 tablespoon raw honey
The Add-ons
- 1 teaspoon spirulina or chlorella (for extra cleansing and nourishing green power)
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1/2 cup fresh or frozen pineapple chunks
- 1/2 cup fresh or frozen papaya chunks
Show Time
Place all the ingredients into your high-speed blender and blend for around 30-45 seconds or until nice and smooth. If you add coconut oil and don’t have a very powerful blender you might want to blend everything except the coconut oil first, then drizzle it on and blend for another 5-10 seconds to avoid clumping.
